Synopsis
"Chikhirtma or Bozbashi | Yellow or Red" is an innovative theatrical experience that marries the art of performance with the culinary traditions of Georgia. Based on the motifs of Ilia Chavchavadze's Is That a Man?!, this production reimagines the original work as a satirical and gastronomic exploration of Georgian culture.
Part One: Theatrical Play
The first act is a lively and humorous portrayal of Prince Luarsab T'hat'hkaridze and his wife, Princess Darejan, who engage in a passionate debate over the merits of two traditional Georgian dishes: Chikhirtma (a yellow chicken soup) and Bozbashi (a red lamb stew). The characters' exaggerated traits and the absurdity of their arguments provide a comedic critique of Georgian aristocracy and social norms. This segment is performed in Georgian with English narration and subtitles to ensure accessibility.
Part Two: Culinary Experience
In the second act, the audience is invited to participate in a traditional Georgian supra (feast). They will have the opportunity to taste both Chikhirtma and Bozbashi, immersing themselves in the culinary heritage that is central to the play's narrative. This interactive experience allows the audience to become a part of the story, voting on their preferred dish and thus playfully resolving the culinary dispute presented in the performance.
